Jamaica
With its white sandy beaches, endless sunshine and laid-back vibe, Jamaica has long attracted the great and good to its shores. A Caribbean island nation, Jamaica has lush rainforests, mountains and reef-lined beaches where you can relax with a rum or two! Birthplace of Bob Marley, you're never far from the sweet sounds of Reggae - visit the capital, Kingston, where you'll find the Bob Marley museum. The climate is tropical all year round with only a few degrees difference between winter and summer - the dry season runs from December to May, with the wet season June to November where you may experience heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Over 225,000 British nationals visited Jamaica in 2019. Most visits are trouble-free. UK health authorities have classified Jamaica as having a risk of Zika virus transmission. The hurricane season in Jamaica normally runs from June to November. There are high levels of crime and violence, particularly in the capital Kingston, and although there’s no recent history of terrorism in Jamaica, attacks can’t be ruled out.

The vibrant culture of Jamaica draws you in, whether it’s the rich musical heritage or the relaxed, rum-soaked days on palm-tree laden, white sandy beaches. Away from the coast you’ll find spectacular scenery with mountains, rivers, savannah plains and waterfalls of course (who could forget Tom Cruise in Cocktail, eh?!). Most of Jamaica’s tourism is concentrated in the “big three” resorts of Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios. Montego Bay has a string of hotels, bars and restaurants along its beach-lined tourist strip. Negril is younger, with a more laid-back vibe, whereas Ocho Rios embodies high-impact tourism – purpose-built in the 1960s to provide the ultimate package of sun, sand and sea.
